Seeds of Strength was honored to receive RecognizeGood’s Lighthouse Award on November 17 from Joel Coffman, Executive Director of RecognizeGood. The award recognizes Seeds of Strength’s continued service to community well-being and improvement, along with a $1000 contribution from RecognizeGood to a nonprofit chosen by SoS.
When advised by RecognizeGood about the nomination, SoS leadership formed an ad hoc committee led by Pam Carlson to research and recommend who might receive the monetary portion. Criteria set by the committee included an organization that had submitted a 2022 grant request, a small organization, client demographics, cost effectiveness and diversity. The committee recommended the CareBOX Program, which did not receive SoS funding for the 2022 grant cycle. The Board of Directors unanimously approved.
The CareBOX Program, founded in 2014, is a maturing organization that reaches out to cancer patients providing them with necessary supplies they might not be able to afford. Each box costs approximately $450-$500 and has an immediate impact on the lives of the recipients.
RecognizeGood is “an Austin-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides the means for anyone to illuminate, connect with and learn from great examples of goodness. Since its inspiration in 2007, RecognizeGood has grown to include a variety of unique programs ranging from celebration to education, but the root remains the same – illuminating the GOOD in our community.”
Seeds of Strength presented the $1000 award to the CareBOX Program in a short ceremony held at First Texas Bank on November 29.
