You have been a member of Seeds since 2018 – why is Seeds important to you? I moved to Sun City in 2016 and soon was invited by my neighbor to join Seeds of Strength. I had previously been impressed with Women’s Giving Circles but had not had the time or money to become involved. Now I had both, but as a new citizen, I was baffled by all of the non-profits abounding in Georgetown. I did not know how to determine which ones were actually providing valuable services. Seeds of Strength was the answer! I put my donations in their care, and was assured it would go to deserving non-profits.
Why has being involved in Compliance been a priority? For the first five years, I was a contributing member but not personally involved. I felt rewarded each time I could place a vote and know my money was doing good. Then 3 years ago, I had more time and volunteered for the Compliance Committee. What a wonderful experience! I got to know a particular non-profit up close and personal. I was privileged to personally deliver the Seeds of Strength grant check, and was treated like royalty when I walked in the door with that check. The non-profits really do appreciate Seeds of Strength funds and our hands-on follow-up with them.
You have deep roots in Georgetown, tell us more! Another reason I joined Seeds of Strength was to get to know ladies in Georgetown and be involved in life in the city. My husband grew up in Walburg, so I have always admired the city from afar. Now I want to get to know it from the inside. Thanks to Seeds of Strength I have that opportunity!
