2013 RECIPIENT:
THE PALACE THEATRE EDUCATION PROGRAM
Georgetown Palace Theatre has $5,000 for their youth education program
The Palace Theatre would like to thank you all for your generous donation to our Education Program scholarship fund. We are currently sending out marketing for our summer workshops along with early information on our fall after school program. This means that over 500 families will see the Seeds of Strength logo and learn about the partnership between our organizations in the next few weeks.
We would like to give you a snapshot of what these scholarships will mean to the children
Who will receive them:
For many of these students, the only place that they are exposed to the Arts is school.
- Participation in our program shows them that the Arts can become a way of life. Our Education program is not “separate” from our Theatre. We all work together to make sure that the children know that they are a part of a Community that values creativity. In addition to the functional skills they will acquire, they will become a part of that Community. They will meet professional actors, dancers and vocalists, as well as people who have made careers in nonprofit management and directing, thus opening new horizons in careers that they may have never considered. When the time comes for performances, volunteer seamstresses help with costuming, techies work with them to make sure the lights and sound are perfect, and the Palace family comes to cheer everyone on. They will see that even people with traditional occupations can share an avocation that enhances their quality of life.
- In workshops, they will be asked to stretch themselves, to do things that they have never done before. They will learn the pride of hitting a note for the first time or the fulfilling soreness that comes after a really great dance class. They will learn to master emotions to tell stories or the structure needed to tell a really great story to begin with. Some of them will learn the basics of the technical knowledge that it takes to run a show. Every new discovery leads to a sense of renewed sense of pride and confidence that spills over into the rest of their lives.
Thank you again for your commitment to both the at-risk children in our Community as well as Arts education in Georgetown. We have performances in both December and May that each of you is invited to attend. You will see the fruits of your gifts onstage at that time and, we hope, on our stage for many years to come!
