Saturday afternoon on February 3 was sunny and bright — a beautiful day for Seeds of Strength members and guests getting together to celebrate philanthropy and friendship. Over 90 women attended this year’s event at the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center (WCCAC). Attendees enjoyed lively conversation and light bites — and chocolate and wine.
In her remarks, SoS President Laura Packard shared her personal story about collective giving. Kerrie Stannell, WCCAC’s Chief Executive Officer, discussed the Center’s mission and its impact on the children served, while via video, we watched updates from other SoS grantees. Membership Chair Kiersty Lombar encouraged folks to attend an Info Mixer (two to go this February), open to all, and a great way to mingle while learning more about SoS. Oh, and there were door prize drawings, lovely gift baskets with many tempting things inside.
Since it was the weekend with no clients in the building, we were fortunate to be invited by Kerrie to tour the Center. A number of us lined right up. Going behind the scenes, seeing the intake rooms, the interview rooms, the exam rooms… hearing about procedures and steps cases follow… the Center’s work is impressive and sobering. Kerrie pointed out particular equipment purchased with Seeds of Strength grants. Seeing direct impact like that, made possible by the members of SoS, reinforces both the power of collective giving and what unites all of us at Seeds of Strength — women coming together to make a difference.
