Last month, Seeds of Strength members Terri Boroczk, Joanne Hoover, Karron Wilson, Peggy Campbell and Barbara Garland participated in a site visit at the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center. They met with Monica Benoit-Beatty, who explained that WCCAC’s mission “is to break the cycle of abuse one child at a time.”
In May 2016, WCCAC was awarded a grant of $25,000 from SoS to hire and train a nurse to conduct 84 “well child” pediatric exams. These exams are in addition to the 82 “sexual assault exams” that the medical program at WCCAC currently provides. A “well-child” exam helps provide peace of mind by determining that a traumatized victim is free from superficial signs of abuse or neglect.
The YouTube link below will take you to an eight-minute video that was produced in 2016 by WCCAC. In the video, you will hear from members of the staff, a local detective, and several clients.
“What will the other kids think? Am I the only one? Will they put me in jail?” asks one little girl.
As you watch Williamson County Children Advocacy Center’s PSA, it’s impossible to not be touched by the service WCCAC provides in our community. As one parent/client tearfully states, ” There’s only one statistic that’s important, and that’s a 1. One is too many. And CAC and the services that are provided here, that’s the mission.”
