2012 RECIPIENT:

THE GEORGETOWN PROJECT

The Georgetown Project, has an additional $20,000 to hire a part time counselor for The NEST.

“SOS funding allowed us to hire staff who not only have the professional qualifications for an outreach such as this project, but have the heart to make The NEST a home for these kids. We truly could not have opened the doors seven months ago without our Seeds of Strength friends.

We have the kids journal and occasionally ask them to provide input to us so we know their thoughts about how things are going. The comments are always about relationships……this project is very rich in the 40 developmental Assets.

Here’s a quote from one of our NESTers that I just love:

“Before coming to The NEST, I didn’t really have any friends at my high school. I met a friend here who understands what I’m going through so I don’t have to be ashamed around her. I even make her laugh and help her have a better day. The NEST is safe and people here listen to us. I like family dinners together. I never had a family dinner before going there, or if I did, I don’t remember. They send food with us too if we have any leftover. I try to get to school now so I can come here. Thank God for everyone that started The NEST.” Leah, a Georgetown ISD Senior
