image of a personWhen I first joined Seeds of Strength, I was navigating the beautiful, blurry chaos of new motherhood while working full-time. My days were measured in deadlines and diapers; I didn’t have hours to spare, but I had a deep desire to connect with something bigger than my own four walls. I joined with friends and colleagues, turning our event nights into a lifeline of connection – a chance to share a meal, a laugh and a shared purpose.

In those early years, it was about learning. But as my children grew…from toddlers to the middle and elementary schoolers they are today…my perspective shifted.

Suddenly, the “needs of the community” weren’t just abstract concepts or statistics on a page. I began to see them in the faces of the children in my kids’ hallways and classrooms. I realized that when I cast my vote through Seeds of Strength, I’m not just supporting a nonprofit – I am potentially lifting up a child’s classmate or helping a neighbor through a season of struggle.

Over the years, I’ve been honored to serve three terms on the Board and now on the Technology Committee. What I’ve discovered is that this organization is the beating heart of Georgetown. It is fueled by people who are often in the thick of their “second shift,” those of us who trade our professional hats for the role of family “Uber driver” the moment the clock strikes five.

We may not always have an abundance of time to give, but we have an abundance of heart. Our collective support proves that you don’t have to do everything to change everything. Together, we are ensuring a better future for Georgetown. One vote at a time.
